Donaldsonville hosting Breast Cancer Awareness Week | Events
DONALDSONVILLE – Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez recently announced
Monday the Parish of Ascension Department of Recreation and Culture (PARC), along
with the River Road African American Museum, will host a week of activities
acknowledging Breast Cancer Awareness Month by holding the third annual Breast
Cancer Awareness Week in Donaldsonville on Oct. 14 through Oct. 19.
Last year’s event raised more than $2,000 for the American Cancer Society.
This year organizers are inviting all cancer survivors and their family members to join
them in hopes of developing a Donaldsonville Cancer Survivor Support Group .
“We want to spread the word about this week-long event and let people know there is a
support system in place that can only grow with everyone’s participation,” said Ajia
Mitchell, PARC program coordinator.
All events are free of charge and will take place at the River Road African American
Museum located at 406 Charles Street, with the exception of the football games at Floyd
Boutte Stadium and the Zumba Class at the old Donaldsonville High School gym (next to
Donaldsonville Head Start on Lee Avenue).
