'Swamp People' cast member dies of natural causes

PIERRE PART, LA (WAFB)- Ascension Parish coroner Dr. John Fraiche says Mitchell Guist, a star of the reality TV show "Swamp People" died of natural causes.

Fraiche says "There was no suspicious cause, no accidents. Did not appear to be an accidental death."

However, the exact cause of death has not yet been released.

Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack says Guist, 47, was working to build a houseboat when he appeared to have a seizure and fell backwards in his boat.

CNN is reporting Guist was with another person along the Belle River in St. Martin Parish, at the time of his collapse. They say that person got Guist back to a boat landing, performed CPR and called his wife, who in turn called 911.

Waguespack said it appeared Guist had some sort of seizure, but it is uncertain if the seizure was caused from the fall or something else health related.

Guist was taken to Teche Regional Hospital in Morgan City, where he was pronounced dead.

"Swamp People," on History Channel TV, features residents of Louisiana's Atchafalaya swamp country during alligator hunting season.
